Center for Elder Law and Justice: Meeting the Legal Needs of Older Adults

The Center for Elder Law and Justice (CELJ) is a dedicated organization focused on meeting the legal needs of older adults and advocating for their rights. With a commitment to promoting the well-being of seniors, CELJ offers a wide range of comprehensive legal services and resources.

The Center for Elder Law & Justice (CELJ) provides free civil legal services to adults throughout Western New York, and reaches health care patients in need of legal assistance through the MedLaw Partnership of Western New York. Attorneys are embedded at several area hospitals and health care facilities in Buffalo, New York, to provide assistance with legal matters that may be impacting an individual’s overall health. Funding from JALBCA supports legal aid for breast cancer patients and survivors, and individuals at risk of the disease.

Legal issues involving housing, health insurance, income maintenance, employment rights, access to benefits, advanced planning, and consumer debt are common among the clients served, and at times may even be a barrier to receiving needed treatment. The highest percentage of casework falls under the category of personal and family stability, which includes issues such as custody and visitation, domestic or elder abuse, consumer debt, wills and estates, health care proxies, and powers of attorney. CELJ’s MedLaw Partnership also provides community education and outreach, and we trust our advocacy efforts help to address the needs of individuals with a history of breast cancer.

Outreach and Education: Equipping Older Adults with Knowledge

CELJ also places great emphasis on community outreach and education. Attorneys from the center deliver informative presentations on topics such as elder abuse prevention, financial exploitation, healthcare options, and housing rights. By raising awareness and equipping older adults with knowledge, CELJ empowers them to protect themselves and make informed decisions regarding their legal affairs.

CELJ's Support for JALBCA's Breast Cancer Advocacy

The Center for Elder Law and Justice (CELJ) recognizes the important work carried out by JALBCA in raising awareness and advocating for individuals affected by breast cancer. Acknowledging the significance of JALBCA's efforts, CELJ has extended its support through various means. This includes financial contributions, collaborative initiatives, and active participation in JALBCA's events and campaigns. By partnering with JALBCA, CELJ aims to contribute to the collective fight against breast cancer, ensuring that individuals impacted by this disease receive the necessary support and resources.

Through this collaboration, CELJ reaffirms its commitment to addressing critical health issues and providing comprehensive legal services to those affected by breast cancer. Together, CELJ and JALBCA work to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals and families affected by breast cancer, fostering a supportive and informed community.
