JALBCA Supporting ECMC
Since 2018, JALBCA has provided vital support for the Mobile Mammography Services Program. This generous assistance has helped to fund mobile mammography screening, education, and patient navigation services for over 4,700 patients throughout the region, yet the lives touched and saved are likely immeasurable. The continued support of JALBCA became especially crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic. As nationwide attention was turned to pandemic relief efforts, JALBCA continued their mission of supporting programs that are fundamentally important for life-saving early detection. As hospitals, healthcare providers, and organizations of all kinds struggled financially, JALBCA's support was critical to ensuring the survival of programs such as these.
Grantee Project
Through the creation of the Comprehensive Breast Health Center, the ECMC Foundation and Erie County Medical Center seek to remedy inequitable health outcomes by bringing together the fragmented breast health care model under one roof in an area of high need. The partners seek to build on the success of the Mobile Mammography Coach and use this experience to expand its services to a brick-and-mortar location within the hospital. The cornerstone of the new Comprehensive Breast Health Center will be the addition of the first brick and mortar mammography suite in Buffalo’s highest need area. The future mammography suite will have one, 3D digital tomosynthesis, Selenia Dimensions system one DEXA bone density scan unit. Tomosynthesis is the latest, digital mammography technology available, and decreases recall and false-positives rates, thereby improving the effectiveness of breast cancer screening. Operations in the new mammography suite are expected to begin Q1 2025.
