Our Mission
Judges And Lawyers Breast Cancer Alert (JALBCA) is dedicated to mobilizing the legal community of the New York City metropolitan area in the fight against breast cancer.
Many of our members are survivors, as such, we utilize our unique expertise as jurists and members of the bar along with our personal experiences to develop and implement programs to educate the legal community and the general public about current medical research, treatment, legislation, ethical concerns, as well as financial and insurance issues of critical importance to breast cancer patients and their families.
Additionally, we raise monies through membership dues and fundraising activities to support our philanthropic activities. Through a fundraising drive at our annual dinner, JALBCA deploys mobile-screening vans to provide life-saving mammograms throughout much of the State to those who would otherwise be unable to obtain them. We also provide grants to organizations such as Share, the City Bar Justice Center’s CAP program and the Judith Kaye Project at the Family Center. Our grants are used to provide legal and social services to cancer victims and their families, particularly those who could not otherwise afford them.
To better provide support and comfort to our colleagues fighting breast cancer, they can reach out for immediate assistance on our new support hotline, in which we partner with Share. Through the hotline, lawyers and judges can request to speak directly with one of our members for support and guidance.
